Welcome to Swift River Veterinary Consultations!
Advances in animal health care over the past two decades have given pet owners more options than ever before--but along with those advances has come a level of complexity that has made navigating a pet's care even more difficult. I created Swift River Veterinary Consultations to give pet parents the time, perspective, and practical guidance that can be difficult to obtain through routine veterinary care.
My approach is based on a simple principle: every pet should be evaluated as a whole being, not simply as a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. Diet, digestive integrity, medications, lifestyle, environment, stress, age and previous health problems all influence one another. When we examine these factors together, we often gain a much clearer understanding of why a problem may be developing, why it persists, or why it continues to return.
Nutrition is the cornerstone of my therapeutic approach. Food influences virtually every system in the body, including the gastrointestinal tract, immune system, metabolism, skin and ears, urinary tract, pancreas, liver and kidneys, as well as overall health and resilience. The right diet can be the most powerful tool we have for establishing a preventative care plan, supporting current or ongoing medical treatments, improving quality of life and avoiding future problems.
During a consultation, I carefully review your pet’s history, current and past diets, laboratory results, diagnoses, medications and ongoing concerns. My goal is to help you understand the larger clinical picture, identify questions or issues that may not yet have been fully addressed or evaluated, explore nutritional and integrative therapeutic options, and develop thoughtful recommendations to discuss with your regular veterinarian.
This process can be especially helpful for pets with chronic or recurring conditions, incomplete responses to treatment, concerns about prescription diets, complex medical histories , or for owners who simply want an independent second opinion. The goal is not merely to manage a diagnosis, but to develop a thoughtful, comprehensive plan that supports the health of the whole animal.
